Child Centered Learning

The children start to learn about the world around them from the moment they are born. At DPS Kidszone, we recognise that children learn and develop in different ways and at different rates. We value all areas of learning and development equally and understand that they are inter connected. Children learn best through physical and mental challenges.

Active learning occurs when children are motivated and are interested. We do this by providing all the children with interesting activities that are right for their age and stage of development. The TATA CLASS EDGE modules give an opportunity to learn virtually and experience the lesson being taught. Our approach is to provide – Child Centered Learning Thus we provide an environment in which children experience the joy of learning and excitement of discovery, through an integrated and dynamic curriculum. This gives opportunities to children to develop their own interest, with principles and practices of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. We strive religiously to keep the curiosity alive and enhance the talent of all the children. Especially designed assignment booklets, not only give an insight to the recapitulation of the monthly curriculum, but also the time for the parents to gauge child’s understanding of concepts being done in the class. Our assessment and evaluation methods are formative and motivational. We believe in teaching methods, which enhance the Multiple Intelligence of a child

These are the three prime areas of the curriculum

First: Personal, social and emotional development

The curriculum involves helping children to develop

  • A positive sense of themselves and others
  • To form positive relationships and develop respect for others
  • To develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings
  • To understand appropriate behaviour in groups
  • To have confidence in their own abilities.

With right guidance, they become eager to explore new ideas. They start demonstrating independent choices in selecting an activity, dressing up and personal hygiene. They are also taught to understand what is right or wrong, and the reason behind it. They learn to develop respect not only for their own culture and beliefs but also those of other people.

Second: Physical Development

The curriculum involves in providing opportunities for young children

  • To be active and interactive
  • To develop their coordination, control and movement
  • To develop an awareness of space for themselves and others.

They use a range of small and large equipment for balancing and climbing. They learn to handle appropriate tools, objects and malleable materials, with care. They are made aware of healthy living in relation to physical activity and food, thereby learning to take care of them.

Third: Communication and Language

This part of the curriculum involves giving children the opportunities to experience a rich language environment through stories, songs, rhymes, poems and a well equipped library. Special faculty on language works with them so that they can develop confidence and skills in expressing themselves; and to speak and listen in a range of situations.

Lots of language activities are conducted to ignite their interest and imagination. Academics are balanced with lots of co-scholastic activities like dance, music, Shakespeare’s club, Physical Education, Swimming Classes, Yoga and Aerobic Sessions. Circle time activities are planned for the children where the basic emphasis is laid on intra personal development and communication skills. Many competitions are planned for these students to foster their development in different domains and also to develop a sense of accomplishment. Various field trips and nature walks are planned throughout the session. Educational Excursion and Experiential Learning are an integral part of the curriculum. The Parent Connect App is a means of communication between the school and parents, which is readily available and is user friendly
